The Claygate Country 5 Run is an annual five mile run organised by the Claygate Flower and Village Show Society.  It has been held annually since the 1980s, apart from 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions.  It attracts hundreds of runners and is held at the Claygate Recreation Ground on the Sunday before the Claygate Flower & Village Show.

The race starts at 10.30am at the Recreation Ground on Sunday 7th July.

About the Run

The Run follows a route which, apart from the final mile and first few hundred yards, is on footpaths on and around Claygate Common and Arbrook Common.  Only moderate hills are encountered during the course.  Newcomers to The Run are often surprised at the attractiveness of the countryside.

The long-standing course was improved in 2023 and now takes full advantage of the pathways of Arbrook Common to provide a beautiful run through the woods of Claygate. The final section is unchanged and, overall, the course maintains the same trail/road balance as in previous years.

The Run features chip to chip timing to ensure every participant gets an accurate time over the 5 mile course.

Runners of any ages from young to veteran with any ability are welcome.  It’s a fun run for some and competitive for others.  Each runner will have a microchip attached to their running shoe that at the finish will automatically activate recording of their time and calculate their finishing position.

Age categories for 2024 have been brought in line with other local runs.

Junior Male & Female    Under 18
Senior Male & Female    18-39
Veteran Male & Female    40-49
Veteran Male & Female    50-59
Veteran Male & Female    60+

The first three to finish in each class receive a trophy to retain.

Junior runners under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
