2010 Run
Five hundred runners took part in the Country Five run on 11th July in pretty warm conditions on a course as dry as it has ever been. The drinks station was much needed and the hosepipe spray from a few residents was appreciated.
The first runner home was Sean Renfer in 28 minutes and 33 seconds and the first lady was Phyllis Flynn. Gavin Harkus, again the second runner home, was the Male Veteran (age 40-55) winner and Hugh Saxby took the trophy for Super Vet men donated by the sponsors, Gascoigne Billinghurst.
Special mention has to be made of the achievement of Jane Davies, now living in Downside, who has been first of her class in every year since 1992. This time she was the Super Vet winner.
A feature of the event is the Family Section where prizes are given for the best combined places of father & son, father & daughter etc. This year the Bearman family (father/son) and the Renfer family (mother/son) again featured and will, no doubt, enjoy the donated dinner for two at the Griffin pub in Claygate.
New Clubhouse on the Claygate Recreation Ground
The Claygate Recreation Ground Trust has plans for the construction of a new clubhouse on the recreation ground likely to cost £275,000.
Full details are available on www.claygatecricket.co.uk
To help raise funds for the project the Claygate Cricket Club are inviting entrants in the Claygate Five to obtain personal sponsorship. This is a worthwhile cause and all entrants are invited to download the document “New Clubhouse Sponsorship” which provides full information on the procedure.
